Alexa Gerrity is drawn to the alienating quality of the suburban landscape, to Southern California, the fantasy of escape and westward expansion. Mined through a lens of female subjectivity, Alexa works with constructed narratives and imagined realities to address issues of feminine identity.

Alexa has turned from the physical landscape of Los Angeles to a psychological space. Inspired by Los Angeles, a city of illusions, a city of seeming, where its all about the gaze, the image, looking and being looked at, Alexa has taken on the point of voyeur with the ongoing series of drawings that reference Rococo painters, such as Fragonard, who depicted subject matter of exuberance, hedonism and eroticism via female representation.

As in her video work, Alexa tends to work juxtaposing ideas and images that explore the concept of multiplicity. In attempts to unearth the possibilities and limitations of feminine representation she delves into doubling and fragmentations"of the self" in repetitions and series. Through the process of repetition the images are turned into icons and mirror themselves, as if becoming film stills.
